This trip is the dream of many people around the world, and now look at the companion of this young guy!
The Frenchman Guirec Court has traveled round-the-world on a ship for two years with his best friend, the brave chicken Monica.
Their story raises a question: Who is really man’s best friend?
The fellow from the French region of Brittany and his companion hen travel by boat of 11.8 meters, which is called Yvinec in honor of the Isle, where the young man grew up.
Their peregrination started in May 2014 from the Canary Isles (are located off the northwest coast of Africa), where Monica was born.
She was 4 or 5 months old and has never left the Canary Isle before. “I did not speak Spanish, and she did not know French, but we hit it off”, says Guirec.
Then there was the Caribbean Sea and even the Arctic, which the traveler and his companion reached in August last year.
The young man admits that initially he wanted to take a pet on a trip, but he did not think that it would be a chicken.
“I was considering a cat as a companion. But then I decided to choose a hen. It was the best choice because it does not require constant supervision and also provides eggs in the sea. “Everybody has told me that it did not work, the hen will feel too much stress and will not be able to lay eggs, but no problems. She quickly got used to everything”, told Guirec.
On average, Monica brings to 6 eggs a week, even in bad weather conditions such as in Greenland, where they could not see the sun for three months.
Most of the time Monica is walking freely, but when the weather conditions get worse Guirec puts it to the special cage.
The only problem that stands in front of them is the quarantine regulations. They have experienced the meeting with customs in Canada, but the young man admits that in future things may be more complicated.
Now the young man is sure the chicken is the best person per journey.
In comparison with people, it does not complain at all and goes everywhere with me and does not create any difficulties. All you need is to shout:”Monica!” and she runs up and sits on my lap, and I have some company. She is fantastic!
Their further journey is through the Bering Strait to Alaska. And where to go then is not yet known.
“We have not discussed it, but be sure we will find out the answer soon, we are talking a lot, Monica and I..”, shared a guy.
