CFA annually publishes the ratings of the most sought-after varieties in the world. The ratings are compiled on the assumption of the quantity of purebred cats registrations in the international organization. At present, the Association of cat lovers has registered more than 2 million cats belonging to the 42 th species (that are recognizes varieties by CFA).
Regular rating was published in February 2016 and based on data from registrants breeds of cats from 1 January to 31 December 2015. In thiscollectionare represented the top 20 most favorable varieties from the list of the CFA.
20 place. Ocicat is cat variety, originates from the USA.
19 place. Burmese Cat(Burmese). Short-haired variety, originates of South East Asia. In Burma (todays name Myanmar) such cats lived in Buddhist shrine and they were deemed as the impersonation of dead friars.
18 place. Siberian cat is a famous Russian cat variety with medium long hair it received its name from theplace of its origin Siberia.
17 place. Tonkinese cat is a hybrid of the Siamese and Burmese cats of American type.
16 place. Russian blue cat. The variety dates back its origin from the cats of earlyt Slavs. Outside of Russia this variety has become known in 1893, when the English breeder Karen Cox has taken out from Arkhangelsk two blue kittens. The main characteristic feature of it is short hair of blue color with a gorgeous silver sheen. Russian Blue belongs tovery expensive varieties.
15 place. Burmese (sacred Burma) semi long-haired cat breed, which leads its origins from Burma (Myanmar). It should not be confused with the Burmese cat, which is a separate variety of short-haired cats. Burmese is recognizable because of its peculiar color,which according thename of the variety was named of Burmese color. Cats with this coloration are characterized by a really cute white “gloves” on theirpaws.
14 place. Norwegian Forest cat is a variety of domestic cats semi long-haired cat, native of Norway. The ancestries of the variety were the ship’s cat on Vikings drakkars.
13 place. Cornish Rex. Shorthair variety of home-brewed cat, native of the UK.The main distinguishing feature of the Cornish Rex is its fur. It does not have guard hairs and it`s underfur curled in a dense wave that resembles thestructure of the karakul.
12 place. Siamese cat. Variety native of Thai (its old name Siam).
11th place. Devon Rex short-haired breed domestic cats,which originated in the UK. Representatives of this breed have a very extraordinary appearance: frail body covered with a soft, curly fur, and a head with huge ears.
10 place. Oriental cat (Oriental). The ancestors of the short-haired breed from Thailand, but officially it originated in the United States.
9th place. Sphynx breed of hairless cats, whose history officially began in Canada in 1966, but there is evidence that these unusual creatures were known in the days of the Egyptian pharaohs, and were distributed in the temples of the Aztecs and the Incas in ancient Mexico.
8th place. Abyssinian one of the oldest breeds of cats. Abyssinia was the former name ofEthiopia,whence there this breed.
7th place. Scottish Fold is a very interesting breed of cat, the main feature of which is represented in the typical structure of the ears, bent forward and down. This unusual detail of their appearance is the resultof genetic mutations. The first member of the variety was foung in1961 in Scotland.
6th place. American Shorthair. The ancestry of this breed were brought by the settlers from Old World to North America.
5th place.British Shorthair. It is the most favoarable variety in the UK. 4th place. Ragdoll semi long-haired cats. The name of which means”rag doll”, since Ragdoll phlegmatically take any action in relation to them: they can be stroked, squeeze, laid in a certain posture.
3rd place. Maine Coon a large breed ofdomestic cats, whose ancestors lived on farms of Maine (North East America). Because of the original black color with stripesand a big fluffy tail,the yapparently resembled raccoons hence the second part of the name “coon”, ie “raccoon.”
2nd place. Persian cat. The ancestry of the todays breeds have been brought from Persia (new name Iran) to Italy in the 17th century. In 2012 and 2013 Persian cat was the most favorable varietyintheworld,but inthe last two years they only satisfied with second place.
1 place. Exotic cat is a shorthair cat variety, artificially created by Americanbreeders in the1960s bycrossing the American Shorthair with the Persian. In 2014 and 2015 Exotic managed to bypass on popularity, even his long-haired ancestors of Persian cats.
